Preparing for Your Pet Sitter
To ensure you have all the necessities to take the best care of your pet, we recommend you check off the items on this handy list before leaving home.
When leaving your pets in someone else’s care, peace of mind is a top priority. That’s why I’ve put together a simple checklist for Bella Beans Pet Care clients to help ensure your pets are happy, safe, and comfortable while you're away.
A little preparation goes a long way, Whether for a day or an extended trip. This list covers a few important things to check before I arrive to take care of your pets in your home. But it is not comprehensive. Download the complete checklist, “Preparing for Your Pet Sitter,” for much more.
1. Keep Your Home Safe & Secure
Before leaving, make sure your home is secure. Double-check that all windows and doors are locked. If you have an alarm system, let me know the code and any special instructions so I can keep your home safe while I’m there.
2. Thermostat Check
Just like us, pets feel the temperature! Whether you have a cozy pup who loves warmth or a reptile who needs a specific environment, ensure your thermostat is set to a comfortable temperature for your furry (or scaly) friends. If there are any special temperature needs, let me know!
3. Remove Potential Hazards
Pets are curious, and sometimes that curiosity gets them into trouble. Be sure to remove any choking hazards, small items, or toxic substances that your pet might get into. A quick sweep of the house can prevent accidents while you’re away.
4. Clear Instructions for Feeding and Medications
Every pet has their routine, and I want to stick to it as much as possible. Leave detailed feeding instructions and any medications with clear dosages and schedules. If your pet has any special dietary needs or quirks, jot those down, too!
5. Emergency Contacts
It’s always a good idea to have emergency contacts handy. Leave the number of your vet, any close friends or family members I can reach out to in case of emergencies, and, of course, your own contact info in case something comes up.
6. Favorite Toys and Comfort Items
Leaving home can be stressful for your pets. If your dog has a favorite toy, or your cat loves a certain blanket, make sure those comfort items are available. A familiar item can go a long way in making your pet feel more secure while you're away.
8. Relax, You’re in Good Hands!
Once everything is set up, you can relax knowing that your pet is in safe, caring hands. My goal is to make sure your pets feel loved, comfortable, and cared for just like they would if you were home.
By checking these simple things off the list, you can rest easy knowing everything is set for your pet’s care.
